Prioritising diver safety and environmental sustainability

The Gili Island Dive Alliance (GIDA) was formed in 2008 as a response to Gili Trawangan’s growing dive tourism industry. At this time Gili Trawangan was experiencing a general boom in tourism leading to environmental pressures. GIDA’s objectives are fundamentally focused on two things: ensuring diver safety and proactively managing the impacts of tourism on the environment through a partnership with the Gili Eco Trust.

Objective 1

Deliver the highest quality, safe dive practice

Ensure all dive instructors are fully accredited

Maintain dive guide local knowledge and training

Design and enforce additional safety standards for all operators

Coordinate emergency response, search & rescue for all water users

Enhance reef sustainability through partnerships

Participation in Biorock and coral propagation projects

Support turtle conservation programs

Enhance marine park vigilance and reporting

Ensure reduction of plastic and harmful chemicals

Enhance the diver experience

Creating fish aggregation devices and artificial reefs

Dive training for reef and wildlife preservation and vibrance
